Jazmine Sullivan
Jazmine was raised and born within Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam was once a back-up singer with Philadelphia International Records. Her father offered her a job as the curator of the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She along with her family moved in to the historic landmark. In 2005 she was a graduate of the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in the class of singer-music major. Sullivan began singing as a contralto the children's choir, then after a couple of years, she joined the adult choir. The exposure Sullivan had to secular music was initially limited "I did solos in the church and was approached by someone to sign to an gospel label when I was 11 years old, but I wasn't yet ready," she recalls. "I was lucky enough to be selected for a McDonald's competition, which offered children from major cities the chance to sing 'Accept the things God allows'. The audience responded well." When she was 13 years old, she sang to Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday celebration. Sullivan was the first to sign her contract to Jive Records when she was fifteen. It was her first time signing with Jive Records at the age fifteen. She recorded an entire album. However, this album did not see release. Sullivan was ultimately dropped from the record label. She had a good working relations along with Missy Elliott. Elliott produced many of her tracks and tracks, such as "Backstabbers" that was produced by Timbaland.
